The origins of the company trace back to when its founder, Dr. Rob Acosta, first began his academic studies and started to learn more about the differences between management and leadership. It was during this time that Dr. Acosta became familiar with the following truth: all leaders are managers, but not all managers are leaders.

So after obtaining an undergraduate degree in business management, followed by a master’s degree in business administration, Dr. Acosta was inspired to pursue a doctoral degree in leadership studies to become well-versed in both areas. With this background, Dr. Acosta was able to firmly grasp that in the pursuit of organizational success, managerial skills are not enough – it is leadership that truly makes the difference and sets apart good organizations from great ones.
When developing leadership skills, however, it is critically important that any training in this area be based upon learning models that are scientifically tested and found to be both reliable and valid, using proper sample sizes, and properly constructed studies. In other words, the basis for any leadership development initiative must be properly vetted to make sure that it is not only theoretically sound, but that it also practical and proven to work in the real world.

Dr. Rob Acosta is the founder of Leadership Interactive, LLC and serves as its managing director. Dr. Acosta was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, where he currently resides. He graduated with the highest honors (Summa Cum Laude) from The University Texas – Pan American at the top 1% of his class with a bachelor’s degree in business management, graduated from Texas A&M University – Kingsville with a master’s degree in business administration (4.0 GPA), and graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University with a doctoral degree in leadership studies (4.0 GPA).
Dr. Acosta is a published author who has had his scholarly research in leadership presented at peer-reviewed international conferences. In addition to his academic accomplishments, Dr. Acosta brings his prior experience as an entrepreneur and various professional credentials to Leadership Interactive, LLC. Dr. Acosta is a trained Leadership Challenge® Workshop Facilitator (mentored by Stephen Hoel, President of Diversity Leadership Consultants and former Walt Disney World® executive, and Kirsten-Abbott West, Director of Leadership Development at Universal Studios Orlando), trained LPI® Coach (mentored by Amy Savage, President of Fine Points Leadership), and a certified facilitator in The Student Leadership Challenge® (mentored by Beth High, President of High Road Consulting, and Gary Morgan, President of Gary Morgan & Co.).
Dr. Gail J. Shapiro brings a wealth of experience in conflict resolution and mediation to Leadership Interactive, LLC. She has been training, teaching at universities, researching and writing about problem-solving, assertiveness, conflict management and mediation for over 20 years. Her nationwide study of HR professionals is often consulted worldwide for information on conflict management in the workplace. Dr. Shapiro holds two graduate degrees – a PhD in Conflict Analysis & Resolution with a specialty in Organizational Conflict and an MA in Legal Studies with a specialty in ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution). Dr. Shapiro is certified as a Conflict Coach, Collaborative Practitioner, Collaborative trainer, a True Colors Personality Assessor, and a Community Mediator.
As a conflict management specialist, Dr. Shapiro is ready to assist any professional who may be experiencing conflict in the workplace. Based upon two decades of work in mediation and conflict resolution, she has a tremendous track record of helping individuals achieve peaceful and happy resolutions to conflict. Social service agencies, attorneys, corporations, teachers, coaches, semi-retired professionals, real estate agents, insurance agents, clergy and construction companies have all received mediation and conflict resolution training from Dr. Shapiro. She is passionate about helping others learn how to prevent conflict from escalating, which can hurt work performance, cause litigation, and even lead to violence.
